B Mitzvah
B Mitzvah is Romemu’s gender-neutral term for bar/bat mitzvah, which defines the moment when a child reaches the age of obligation. A B Mitzvah is a moment in the human journey when a person becomes both counted and accountable – in one’s family, community, and society at large. Members who have had Romemu Brooklyn B Mitzvah have described them as the most special days of their lives!

B Mitzvah Timeline
Ideally, we will start working with your family 24 months out, though we can certainly begin the process closer to the B Mitzvah date when necessary. Students will begin private tutoring to learn to leyn (chant) their Torah portion 9-12 months from their B Mitzvah date if they have prior Jewish education including Hebrew. Students without prior Hebrew experience should begin 18-24 months before their B Mitzvah for their ease and comfort. Four to six months from their B Mitzvah date, they will start working on their Dvar Torah (teaching).
Finally, the expectation is that B Mitzvah students and their families will attend every month’s Shabbat morning service to help familiarize themselves with both the service for prayer leadership during the B Mitzvah and the Torah service. The tutor will also support prayer leadership skills.
There will be check-ins with clergy and two rehearsals prior to the B Mitzvah service.
